Phillies Trade Strahm To Royals, Free Up $7.5 Million. What Happens to Rain Delays Now?

The rumors circulating around Phillies relief pitcher Matt Strahm were proven true earlier this morning, as the Phillies dealt the veteran left-hander to Kansas City in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jonathan Bowlan. Bowlan, 29, posted a 3.86 ERA in 44.1 innings last year with 17 free passes and 46 k's.

As 94 WIP’s Devon Kaney pointed out, this move feels less about what the Phillies acquired and more about what they’re positioning themselves to do next with the money they freed.

The move leaves Philadelphians asking two very important questions. First, what happens to the Declaration of Independence glove? In a nod to his doppelgänger, Nicolas Cage, Strahm paid homage to one of the greatest movies ever filmed- National Treasure.

Perhaps even more pressing: what happens to rain delays on NBC Sports Philadelphia?

Strahm hosted an entertaining baseball card and collectibles segment that helped pass the time during tarp-ridden summer nights. Instead of staring at radar loops and puddles on the infield, fans got an inside look at Strahm’s passion for collecting, which included the revelation that he was even helping Bryce Harper get his collection started. No wonder I kept getting outbid on eBay for that unopened 1983 Topps wax box.

I guess we’ll go back to our bread and butter: Kruk and the ’93 club.
