Bichette to the Mets Is a Kick Below the Waist — Realmuto Back for 3 Years Isn't Enough

Brutal. Just absolutely brutal. It felt like a done deal. According to Bob Nightengale, the Phillies had agreed to Bo Bichette’s ask of seven years and $200 million as of last night. Then the Mets swooped in and gut-punched the entire city, yanking Bichette out from under the Phillies with a stunning three-year, $126 million deal.
The Phillies almost immediately pivoted and brought back veteran catcher JT Realmuto for 3 years $45 million with an opportunity to make up to $60 million, but it does very little to move the needle. This feels like such a loss- even with signing JT.

Then there’s Alec Bohm, who was all but out the door if the Bichette deal went through. At this point, he probably feels slighted, and honestly, just trade him. Roll with Aidan Miller at third with Sosa, free up the $10 million, and go after Cody Bellinger, or at the very least bring back Harrison Bader, because this already feels like Bohm’s last season in Philly anyway.
I’m not bailing on the Phillies’ 2026 season, but at this point they absolutely have to add another outfielder. On paper, this outfield simply isn’t good enough at the plate. They need Cody Bellinger or Harrison Bader.
